Passion Pit transforms The Fillmore into a tremendous Sea of Love

I genuinely believe that there is nothing more unifying than a concert. Sometimes, though, it's difficult feeling to find if I'm not totally invested in the band. There are moments during shows when I find myself shifting my feet and waiting for the end or zoning out during songs I don't know. But when Passion Pit played The Fillmore on Sunday night, I was 100% present.

I have too many good things to say about this show, but I think what really got me was how happy singer Michael Angelakos was to be up on that stage again. It's been too long since he's done a standalone tour, and you could tell how absolutely freeing the feeling of dancing for the crowd must have been for him again. There wasn't a moment when he wasn't smiling or telling us how awesome Philly is.

This was my first ever Passion Pit show, and I think I was incredibly lucky with the setlist Angelakos tirelessly performed through. He played nearly all of the crowd favorites. "Sleepyhead," "Moth's Wings," "Where the Sky Hangs," "To Kingdom Come," "All I Want," and "Carried Away" were all featured, because the band knew exactly what we wanted.

There are few moments when a band transitions into a song and the experience of moving with the crowd and singing along with the most breathtaking vocals and closing your eyes against the neon lights feels almost transcendental, but when "Lifted Up" played, it was like I was somewhere else. It's just one of those indescribable songs. Arguably one of my favorite Passion Pit tracks, I was completely blown away by the perfection in Angelakos's voice. He can sing in that signature high register forever and never falter.

This was the most excited I've been for a show in a long, long time. Passion Pit is a really special experience if you ever get to see them, because they don't come around often. And what made the night even better was how much Philly loved him. I love that. I love how passionate we are about music. I love how welcoming we are. I love how much we are loved back. That's what makes this the best city for music. I can't imagine being somewhere else.

You can catch Passion Pit on tour until February 3rd, so don't miss out if you're interested. This band sells out.
