Twenty One Pilots Emotional Roadshow Tour Is: Exactly That

Twenty One Pilots have been on their Emotional Roadshow Tour for just about a year, and Dylan bought our tickets almost eighteen months ago, so I knew this show was going to be a big deal.

He's a TOP show veteran, while this was only my second time watching the boys do what they do best.

And oh my god, do they deliver.

We hit the road for the PPL Center in Allentown on January 14th, where the band hasn't been in years. For this leg of the tour, the openers were Judah and the Lion and Jon Bellion, who gave an incredibly entertaining and enthusiastic performance to lead up to the main event. For a concert like Twenty One Pilots, that's exactly what you need. You need an opener that will hype up the crowd and keep you on your feet, because this show isn't something you can just sit through.

When the lights finally cut out and the crowd anxiously began to scream, the aggressive and drum-heavy introduction to "HeavyDirtySoul" assaulted our ears, and Josh Dunn and Tyler Joseph took the stage clad in red suits and ski masks, just like I knew they would. The whole place was alive and singing along to the lines:

"Gangsters don't cry,

                                     therefore,

                                                          therefore I'm..."

They followed up with "Fairly Local," and in typical Tyler Joseph fashion, he disappeared from the stage during the last verse of the song, only to suddenly reappear way up in the stands, just one section away from our seats. As the song ended, he pulled the ski mask from his face to properly welcome us to the Emotional Roadshow Tour.

Wow.

Just that was enough to get my adrenaline running.

But let me tell you, this wasn't just a concert. This was a performance. There was always something going on. During an interlude, Josh set himself up at his drum kit while another Josh appeared on screen and copied every hit he made. It was an insane battle to lead into a fan favorite, "Ride."

I couldn't think of any songs they left out of their set. Almost everything they had was played, old and new. They even played "Cancer," their My Chemical Romance cover. During that song, they set up a small stage for just a piano and drums in the center of the pit for a more intimate show.

Anything I'd heard about a Twenty One Pilots concert, they made it happen. They had the giant hamster ball. They had Josh crowdsurfing his drum kit. They had the dancing radiation mask figures. They had the famous 10-song mashup.

They literally had it all.

If you're lucky enough to still snag up a ticket to the end of the Emotional Roadshow Tour, DO IT. You will never be disappointed in a Twenty One Pilots performance, because as Tyler said so many times, the only reason they're still here is because of us.

Keep up with Tyler and Josh on Instagram, as well as photos from the tour on the band account. And follow up with us for more photos from other shows we attend!
