Mo Lowda and the Humble's "Snowbird" is an Emphatic Beacon of Light

Mo Lowda and the Humble just put out a relatively topical track about finding a light within life’s unavoidably dark moments. It feels like a fitting and hopeful release, specifically applicable to their own circle at the moment. The band has been through it over these last couple of weeks — just as they were about to leave for their first tour since 2019, their van was stolen. Before that, a member of their crew contracted COVID. Jfc, right? Despite an ominous return to normalcy, the underlying driving guitar groove and gripping vocals in “Snowbird” manage to pull the listener back into the present and serve as a reminder that the shit we all go through is temporary.

This track is a graceful departure from their previous, heavier releases. 2020’s Ready Coat LP is an outright rock album, but “Snowbird” showcases the gentler side of frontman Jordan Caiola’s craft. It’s like an inevitable blend of his solo work, emphasized by a seamless collaboration with his full band. There’s a natural sense of constant momentum within the track that further explores the listener to keep moving forward when things feel heavy. Stagnation isn’t it. The “snowbird” imagery is quite literally a beacon, and whatever yours looks like as the harsher months start to creep closer — hold onto it.

Even though this song sits at a different level on the typical Mo Lowda discography, it makes me incredibly excited for what they have in store. This band was busy when things seemed quiet over the last year and a half, and I hope you pull something from this track in the same way I did. It’s a really beautiful listen.

So, a couple things:

A fan generously started crowdsourcing funds on the band’s behalf to purchase a new van, and you can find that link here.

You can find tickets to their show at Union Transfer on November 19th here.

You can stream “Snowbird” below, or anywhere else you get your music.
