Philly rockers Total Rubbish are a chic femme trio in aesthetic yet rough around the edges in sound. They’ve been bread-crumbing their upcoming LP, Triple Negative, due out on November 20th via Born Losers Records, with edgy single after single. Their previous release and video, “Honey Ryder,” showcased the band in a live setting with red-tinged filtered light and handheld cinematic shots.

This time, the band has dropped a self-made video for “What’s Your Damage?” and it’s a documentary-style splice of shots featuring the band strutting around an abandoned seaside setting. The colors are whimsical and washed-out, and the band’s grunge-chic wardrobes expertly clash with the cookie-cutter pastel backdrops of beachfront motels and amusement parks. It has the feel of a video that was organically shot all in one go, with the band’s carefree yet provocative auras being the driving force of the project.

The track itself is bright and fuzzy and reminiscent of summer, though that’s definitely partly to do with the imagery. It evokes the same feeling as the September part of summer, when everything is right on the brink of change. This single alludes to what the full album has in store, while dialing back the intensity that “Honey Ryder” delivered. “What’s Your Damage?” wants you to look inside yourself and face whatever your damage might be, but what you do with what you find is up to you.
