Quarantine livestreams aren’t reserved just for dudes chilling on their couches with an acoustic guitar. Kirby Sybert, the every man of our local scene, has been popping up with all different kinds of streams. From impromptu beat making to solo DJ sets to sessions with his band Mo Lowda and the Humble, he’s proof that just because you’re stuck inside doesn’t mean you have to be bored.

Sybert’s been making the most of his downtime. He recently remixed Keith Goodwin’s latest single, “Where Do We Go From Here,” an introspective look at our current state of things, and laid it over a docu-style video of Philadelphia. A lot of artists have been seeking out new ways to connect with each other and with listeners, and Sybert has a hand in so many different outlets that I’m really appreciative of his effort to both entertain and comfort us during this time of isolation.

While Hi, I’m Kirby and I’m a DJ Now is definitely a more lighthearted release than Mo Lowda’s recent LP, Ready Coat, now is the best time to try something new and create things that we otherwise wouldn’t have time for. I’m going to be jamming these new tracks all day because I need something upbeat, and I think that was the point with this release. This fun surprise drop is a reminder to try and breathe and not feel everything so deeply when you need a break. It’s a nice reprieve from current anxieties, especially those that the local music scene is facing. The rush of releases over the last few weeks, including this one, is still a reminder that artists aren’t going anywhere, and I’m grateful for that.

Stream Hi, I’m Kirby and I’m a DJ Now below, and support your local artists I’m begging you!
