Emily Drinker, who fronts her band of the same name, released her first single since 2017. She was most recently featured on local funk guitarist Kyle Sparkman’s single “How Does It Feel” and has sessioned at WXPN’s Key Studio. She certainly wasn’t standing still in the three years since she’s put out a release of her own, and the result is the undulating and atmospheric “Starting To Feel.”

The forefront of this song is certainly Drinker’s rich layered vocals that manage to both completely drive the track as well as nicely counteract the fuzzed-out guitars and intricate keys. Her range holds all the classic elements of her notable sound, especially her intelligently arrange three-part vocal harmonies.

Though she categorizes herself within the indie folk and pop genres, this song is something close to a jazz ballad but with her own spin. Her vocals really get me. She has such a rich and clear tone, and every move she makes seems to be precise. Everything about this song feels so warm and inviting, and it’s a source of comfort that we all need right now. It’s lyrically profound and sonically inviting and it’s an incredibly promising look at whatever Drinker has in store next.
