Songs to Love To

I've been trying to think of ways to keep you engaged when our concerts start to die down, which is always inevitable. We can't go to every show that comes around, and sometimes, we can't find a  show that we like. We had a really slow winter, and I noticed how little attention I was giving this, and that sucked. I don't want to just let the blog sit around while we wait for something to do, so I thought about a new topic to help keep you connected to us:

Music for Everything.

Music is meant to be shared, and one thing that neither of us has done on this blog is let you in on our favorite songs, favorite bands, favorite moments. That's gotta change. So to start, I wanted to put together a playlist of who we are, together. What songs I associate with our beginning, our present, our best memories. That's one way I keep track of things in my life. I always associate songs with the best (and even the worst) moments, because they often express how I'm feeling better than I can.

This one might be a little lengthy, so I'm going to keep it to about fifteen songs, and I'll give you a little description of why I chose each one.

So, Songs to Love To.

It was really easy to put this list together, easier than I initially thought. There are so many songs that I associate with the beginning of us, but here are a few of my favorites:

"Ways to Go," by Grouplove has not only been one of our best jams for more than a year, but it's the first song Dylan told me to listen to, which is where our Grouplove obsession stems from. "Middle Distance Runner" by Sea Wolf, "Two of a Crime" by Perma, "Promise" by Ben Howard, She Loves Me So" by Anthony Green, and "Budding Trees" by Nahko and Medicine for the People remind me of lazy days in each other's dorm rooms. Those were some of my favorite moments as we were just discovering each other, and the songs are equally as sweet. "Wind in Our Sail" by Weezer was one of the first songs by this iconic band that I was ever properly introduced to, and then learned of Dylan's deep Weezer obsession. He's instilled a love of them in me, too.

These are the songs that we ended our freshman year at SJU to:

"Next Year" by Two Door Cinema Club and John Mayer's cover of "XO" are two songs that I played at 1851 Entertainment's Spring Fest, with a particular crowd member in mind. I was later told that they were Dylan's favorite songs that I played all year.

For my birthday in June, Dylan bought me tickets to see one of our favorite bands, Good Old War, and "Looking for Shelter," "Weak Man," and "Broken Into Better Shape" are some of our all-time favorite GOW jams. That night was one of the best birthdays I've ever had.

As our sophomore year began, we started out the year with (finally) a Grouplove concert, and "I'm With You" was easily the best song they played. We made friends with Del Water Gap in the winter, and "Lamplight" and "Be My Own" are two of our favorites that we love to hear them play live. And, to end the school year, we discovered Bleachers "Don't Take The Money," which I can already tell is going to be one of our summer jams.

So there it is! The first playlist in our series, Music for Everything. You can now follow us on Spotify and listen for yourselves @livefromthecityofbrotherlylove. We'll have our individual favorites coming soon!
