Super group You Do You’s latest single “The Script” is a triumphant resurgence of jazz and funk rock during what feels like a plateau in energy while we’re all at home self-quarantining. This track feels like exactly what we all need right now. It’s a guitar and brass-heavy groove with powerhouse vocals by Katie Feeney.

Everything about this song bounces and enlightens and builds right from the very first note. It’s one of the most upbeat releases Philly has seen since the start of the quarantine. Whether or not the timing has anything to do with this at all, it’s an effective reprieve from the current state of things. If you’re anything like me, then your playlists at the moment are heavy and sleepy and the opposite of something that makes you want to dance. But this song makes me want to dance, and that’s a success in my eyes right now.

Backed by Drew Parker on guitar, Alex Baranowski on bass, Aaron Boczkowski on percussion, Vince Tampio on trumpet, and a rotating list of session musicians, the energy behind You Do You never seems to rest. We can expect another release from the band later this year.
